Gianni was just 15 when he saved the life of his 83-year-old neighbour - thanks to an app on his phone. Pretty cool!

Gianni is one of thousands of people in France who are installing a smartphone app called Sauv Life that is saving lives across the country, just by sharing information.

In our own app, at WoW! News, you can hear how it works and about Gianni's experience. He got to go to his neighbour's 84th birthday party - a party that would never have happened without Gianni's smart thinking, and his app. Wow!

Even if you're not trained in first aid, as long as you're at least 15, you can sign up in France to Sauv Life. If someone has a heart attack, seconds count. The app sends an alert to anyone in the area, showing where the person is who needs help. If you're nearby, you can call in and the operator will tell you what to do until an ambulance arrives.

If you're under 15, you can still ask to learn some first aid. And the most important thing - call 112 on a phone anywhere in Europe to get help, fast. No one needs to feel helpless. We can all do something to help!

Find out more

You can find Sauv Life's website here, in French. In other countries, there are also more and more apps coming online to use the power of information technology to help with first aid. The British Red Cross offers training for kids as young as five. In Belgium, everyone can download the app 111 BE to alert the emergency services, give details of where you are - and get help over the phone.
